Miley Cyrus is engaged. The 33-year-old pop star showed off a gold-and-diamond ring at the Los Angeles premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water spin-off Fire and Ash, and confirmed the news during an interview on Good Morning America. She said her partner of four years, drummer Maxx Morando, popped the question while they were traveling in Asia and that she was genuinely surprised.
“I’m not easy to surprise,” Miley laughed, explaining she usually likes to be in control. But this time she says she “completely surrendered” and was left speechless when Maxx got down on one knee. Holding up the ring, she summed it up: “He did good.”
Miley and Maxx met after being set up on what she has called a blind date, a detail she shared with British Vogue in 2023. Morando, 27, plays drums for the Los Angeles band Liily. The group even played at Miley’s NBC New Year’s Eve special in 2022 a show that also featured stars like Dolly Parton (Miley’s godmother) and David Byrne.
Miley has been open about how much the relationship has changed her. “Me and Max have been together for four years and it’s very obvious the drastic amount of growth that I’ve had in those four years,” she told GMA. She added that having a partner who constantly pushes you to believe in yourself is priceless.
This isn’t Miley’s first high-profile marriage she wed actor Liam Hemsworth in 2018 after a long on-off relationship and they divorced in 2019. Since then she’s built a busy career: her new song “Dream as One” is featured in the latest Avatar instalment, and she released her ninth album earlier this year.
Even so, Miley says she’s not planning another big tour anytime soon. She’s been honest about the toll touring can take on sobriety and mental health, and right now she prefers to protect that stability rather than hit the road.
In short: engaged, happy, and quietly focused on the next chapter both personally and musically. Congrats to the couple.
