A heavy wave of Russian missiles slammed into Kyiv overnight, causing chaos and fear across the Ukrainian capital. Officials say the strikes were aimed at key energy facilities, and the attack was so intense that Ukraine’s energy minister called it a “massive” assault.
Parts of the city were left without electricity and water, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. In one neighborhood, debris from a missile set a residential building on fire, forcing emergency crews into action while explosions continued in the distance. Klitschko posted on Telegram early Tuesday, warning residents that the assault was still underway and urging everyone to get to shelters immediately.
The attack came right after peace talks held in Switzerland, where world representatives discussed a plan proposed by the United States to try to end the war. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is pushing hard for peace, but cautioned the country that Russia has no intention of easing its pressure.
“These days, every air raid alert must be taken seriously,” he said in a message on X, reminding people that Ukraine knows exactly what kind of threat it faces and that the military is ready to respond.
Just 24 hours earlier, Russia had already sent more than 160 drones into Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said it managed to destroy or disable 125 of them, but many still hit targets across 15 different regions. In Kharkiv, at least four people were killed in one of the drone strikes, according to local officials.
As Kyiv continues to face air raid sirens and exploding missiles, residents are once again bracing for long nights in shelters hoping for calm, but preparing for more attacks.
