Kandi Burruss is opening up about life after she filed for divorce from her husband, Todd Tucker.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 49, told fans during an Amazon Live on Monday that she officially filed for divorce last Friday and that the past few days have been “pretty crazy.” She admitted she’s been feeling a mix of emotions. “I’m going to be very honest with you. I am up and down,” she said, adding that some moments she’s fine and other times she’s sad.
Kandi who left RHOA after 14 seasons said this split has been brewing for a while, and the big smiles people see online don’t tell the whole story. “All the times you’ve been seeing me online all smiles means nothing,” she said. “I’ve been going through it. I’ve been going through it. Life has been life-ing me.”
She also addressed how hard it’s been to watch strangers spin their own versions of her marriage. “Everyone’s making their own narrative of what’s going on,” she said. Sometimes she wants to clap back, she admitted, but mostly she’s trying to focus on what matters: her kids.
Kandi and Todd share two children son Ace, 9, and daughter Blaze, 6 and she said co-parenting is the top priority. Despite the split, the couple plans to spend Thanksgiving together and are trying to keep the transition smooth for the kids. “We are parents together. We are co-parenting together,” she said. “We have beautiful children together, so we are trying to make this transition as smooth as it could possibly be for our kids. That is our main concern. We are keeping it very friendly.”
In her statement to PEOPLE, Kandi asked for privacy while she focuses on family and healing. “This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be, and co-parenting with love and respect,” she said. “I’m stepping into a new chapter pouring into my work, my family, and my own growth. I’m grateful to everyone who supported us throughout the years, and I ask for privacy, grace, and understanding as we navigate this transition with our family.”
