The U.S. State Department has released the November Visa Bulletin, an important monthly update that tells immigrant visa applicants when they can move forward with their cases. In simple terms, the bulletin lays out two key timelines Final Action Dates and Dates for Filing Applications which help people understand when to send in their paperwork to the National Visa Center (NVC).
If you’re applying for a green card, these dates determine whether you can take the next step in your process. Usually, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) asks applicants to follow the Final Action Dates chart. However, when there are more available visas than applicants, USCIS might allow people to use the Dates for Filing chart instead this can help some applicants move forward a little sooner.
For those unfamiliar, here’s how it works: if your priority date (the date your visa petition was filed) is earlier than the date listed in the chart, you’re eligible to submit your required documents. If your category shows the letter “C”, that means it’s current, and anyone in that group can apply right away, no matter their priority date.
Once your turn arrives, the National Visa Center will send detailed instructions on what to do next from submitting forms to preparing for your interview.
This month’s bulletin also includes updates for the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery 2026 program. The bulletin specifies which applicants, based on their regional rank numbers, can move forward in November and December. Only those whose numbers fall below the listed cut-off points will be eligible for visa processing.
For many immigrants waiting years – sometimes decades for their chance, the visa bulletin is more than just a chart. It’s a monthly snapshot of hope and progress, marking one step closer to achieving the American dream.
