Guilty Plea: Teacher with Newborn Confesses to Relations with 15-Year-Old and Asking Him to Lie

Guilty Plea: Teacher with Newborn Confesses to Relations with 15-Year-Old and Asking Him to Lie

Get this: a high school teacher in Australia, Karly Rae, 37, just made a huge U-turn in her legal battle. After initially saying she was innocent back in May, she suddenly decided to plead guilty last week to several serious charges involving a 15-year-old student.

Talk about a surprise in court! Rae, who is also a new mom to an 8-week-old baby, showed up at the Newcastle District Court and confessed to four charges. This means she’s skipping the big trial that was set for 2026. She’ll now find out her sentence on March 25.

The Charges and the Confession

So, what exactly did she confess to?

  • Sexual activity with the underage boy in October 2024 at different spots in Newcastle, New South Wales, where she worked. This was around the time she was first arrested.
  • Possessing child abuse material.
  • Grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity.
  • Trying to twist the outcome of justice (officially called “perverting the course of justice”).

Trouble After Bail

That last charge is particularly wild. Rae was arrested the first time but managed to convince a judge to let her out on bail in January 2025. What did she allegedly do next? She reportedly contacted the teen multiple times in an attempt to get him to change his story and lie in court for her.

According to one report, she called the boy five times in just over two hours! But the teen didn’t agree. Instead, he told his mother, and guess what? Rae was arrested a second time and thrown back in jail! This is when she was hit with the extra charge about trying to mess with the court process.

Out on Bail… Again?

Amazingly, she was granted bail again in June! A judge decided that since she’s no longer a teacher, it was unlikely she’d do this kind of thing again. Plus, the judge figured that going back to jail after her first bail attempt failed would have taught her a lesson.

The personal reason for her second release was later revealed: she was pregnant at the time, and she gave birth in October.

Messages Revealed in Court

As part of her guilty plea, some of the online messages exchanged between Rae and the student on apps like Snapchat and Instagram were presented in court.

In one conversation, after Rae had removed the student from Snapchat, she wrote: “Hey, sorry for removing you on Snap. I found it too tempting for now.”

In another chilling message shown in court, Rae even suggested a final meet-up: “Maybe we could have one last rendezvous before school goes back. I’ll bring my toy.”

It was actually the boy’s cousin who saw some of the Instagram messages and told the boy’s parents, leading them to report the whole thing to the police.

When she was first arrested, Rae reportedly told police she didn’t know his age, insisting, “I thought he was of age… and leaving school.” Despite this claim, the boy was a student at the very high school where she worked.

With her guilty plea, this shocking story is one step closer to its conclusion when Rae faces sentencing in March.
